About 12seconds for Peace

'12seconds for Peace' is a collaborative video-arts project, designed to raise the energy of manifestation for peace on our planet and in our individual hearts and minds. When humanity manifests internal peace and recognises the natural order of the human condition, then peace in the world will follow. The proceeds from 12seconds for Peace will go to support and aid the various good causes of a number of charitable and non-profit organisations around the world.

12seconds for Peace - Darrell Lum

Darrell Lum's lovely video for 12seconds for Peace asks a pertinent question: Why just 12seconds? It is a question that has been raised a number of times and perhaps needs answering again. The short answer is that it fits with the 12seconds format of 12seconds TV - the primary site on which we host our videos. The better answer is that 12seconds for Peace is about making a personal statement for peace. That is all. No explanations, no analysis of why we do not have peace now, no elaboration of the details of your particular definition of what peace is; just a statement that peace is what you want. It actually does not take 12 seconds to do this, but through our generosity of spirit, we thought we would give you a great big chunk of time to amble through whatever you need to say. Take it away Darrell:

12seconds for Peace - Alice Langholt

Still high on the euphoria of the weekends upload of our ground-breaking compilation '12seconds for Peace - The First Ten Minutes', we are really very pleased indeed to have received another video in our series 'Reiki for Peace' from Alice Langholt of 'Reiki Awakening'.

Alice is a Reiki Master who offers classes in this healing art and has filled her video here with the pure essence of her practice - unadulterated universal life force energy being sent to the cause of peace in the world.

12seconds for Peace would love to receive a lot more 'Reiki for Peace' videos. In the meantime you can find out more about Alice's work by going to her website here.

12seconds for Peace - The First Ten Minutes

12seconds for Peace is an idea whose time has come. Faith, commitment, the searing heat of obstinate determination, and the contributions of so many people have helped bring into reality, the first great expression of a global peace phenomenon: ‘12seconds for Peace - The First Ten Minutes’ is finally, resolutely here.

Four months ago, it was no more than a kaleidoscopic fantasy, filled with utopian colour and knitted together with threads of unformed potentiality; high on that momentary euphoria of  new year possibilities, hopes and dreams. It was an idea that burned brightly. It was an idea just worth trying...just maybe, it would work.

12seconds for Peace began life as my little experiment in collaborative video-arts as an account on 12seconds.tv where the videos could be uploaded, and a blog page to feature them on. It is really not much more than that now, but in the last four months it has gone from being a tiny shoot just breaking the surface of what-might-be, to a seedling that, although still frail and in need of nurturing, is looking more and more like it will grow into something that will provide hope and the fuel for dreams of a better world, for many.

‘12seconds for Peace – The First Ten Minutes’ is the outcome of the work of many people who simply believed and did indeed dream of a better world. It is the work of individuals, physically unconnected but sharing a common desire:  to live in a world where peace is the dominant force. To live in a world where humanity can flourish as the greatest creative expression of its souls potential. For that to happen, we need peace – individually, collectively, internally and externally.

Peace is something that we can make happen. Peace is something that we have a right too. Peace is something that is coming. We can discuss the details later, but we will have peace first. We; that is me, you...all of us...insist on it.

12seconds for Peace is growing, and growing fast. The Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Bryant McGill has taken an interest in it and is soon going to provide it with its own dedicated website, linked to his ‘Goodwill Treaty for World Peace’.  ‘Murdock's Trinity Records & Promotions’ – an Arizona based company, is supporting it with inclusions in all of their direct advertising and over this summer will be screening ‘12seconds for Peace – The First Ten Minutes’ at three major rock concerts in Arizona, New Mexico and California. During these events they will be raising money and filming more 12seconds for Peace videos amongst the fans.  12seconds for Peace is also actively involved in the Peace Day concert in London (an event to mark the UN’s ‘International Day of Peace’ on the 21st September), where it intends to support and highlight the important work of Julian Lennon’s ‘White Feather Foundation’. There is also now the very real possibility of major corporate sponsorship.

The first part of the journey for 12seconds for Peace is now over. It could not have got to where it is without the hard work, commitment and faith of all the amazing people who have contributed such beautiful and moving expressions of their desire for peace in the world. I personally wish to thank you all for your belief in what I am doing with this project. I also want to offer a special thank you to String for her enthusiastic support when the project was no more than a nebulous concept ready to be given form and also to Andie Lyra Cariña for all of her hard work, enthusiasm, commitment and energy in supporting and personally nurturing this project over the last few weeks.

The videos are still coming in and we are now working on a second compilation, but we need more! We need YOU to stand for peace. 12seconds for Peace is YOUR project, YOUR voice, YOUR chance to tell the world that you want peace. Join those that have already contributed and let the world know that this is your heart’s desire too. Get in front of a webcam and make your statement; visually, creatively, passionately. 12seconds for Peace will stream every single video sent in.

12seconds for Peace is going places. Get on board and let’s enjoy the ride together.

12seconds for Peace - Peace Pilgrim

Peace Pilgrim spent twenty eight years of her life walking across the United States, spreading her ideas about world peace. It is unclear how many miles she walked by the end of her journey, having stopped counting at the 25,000 mile mark.

Born Mildred Lisette Norman, Peace Pilgrim was a pacifist, vegetarian and peace activist who set out on her walk for world peace on January 1st 1953, from Pasadena in California. A regular speaker on the subject of peace at churches, universities and local and national radio and television stations, when she set off the USA was in enmeshed in the Korean War. By the time that she died in a car accident in 1981, the Vietnam War had also come and gone.

Peace Pilgrim was an example to us all of the commitment and fortitude needed if we are to one day see a world at peace.

12seconds for Peace is very happy to present a video in honour of Peace Pilgrim in our 'Leaders and Teachers for Peace' series.

12seconds for Peace - Debby Rosenberg

12seconds for Peace is having peaceful thoughts today after receiving this wonderful video from Debby Rosenberg. Again, we come back to discovering the roots of where peace in the world must begin: with ourselves. Once we can cultivate internal peace then perhaps there is a chance that we can bring peace to the world around us.

Debby is a poet and photographer and maker of the occasional video. In her own words:

"My outlet is artistic expression, sensing the new era of enlightment will be further progressed via the multidimensional arts. Currently, a cultural creative utilizing artistic expression, knowing the multidimensional arts contribute to global change within the mindset of humanity."

You can find ot more about Debby and her work here.

12seconds for Peace - Abdullah Turan Özşahin - 2

Another great video from Abdullah Turan Özşahin from Turkey kicks off the start of our second compilation '12seconds for Peace - Ten Minutes Later'.

Abdullah's wonderful little video really asks a very pertinent question and one that we really need to be asking ourselves. When we make a comparison between living in peace and the alternatives to peace - is it really so hard to see which is the most preferable?

And of course the bigger question is: Why on Earth are we allowing to persist in the world, the conditions that DO exist, when we have it easily within our power to bring peace to all?

12seconds for Peace - Mother Teresa

12seconds for Peace presents another video in our series 'Leaders & Teachers for Peace'. This time with the inspiring words of Mother Teresa.

Mother Teresa, an Albanian Catholic nun, was born Agnesë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in 1910 in Üsküb of the Ottoman Empire. At the age of 12 she had already decided that she wished to commit herself to her religious calling and joined the sisters of Loreto as a missionary at the age of 18; never again to see her family.

In 1950 she founded the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata (Calcutta), India, and for over 45 years did all that she could to alleviate the suffering of the poor, the sick, orphaned and dying. The Missionaries of Charity's expansion took it throughout the rest of India and then on to the rest of the world.

In 1979, Mother Teresa was awarded the Noble Peace Prize and by the time of her death in 1997, the Missionaries of Charity had 610 missions in 123 countries.

Following her death she was beatified by Pope John Paul II and given the title Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.

Her most profound and insightful comment relating to the desire for peace in the world came when she was invited to go on an anti-war march. She said: "I was once asked why I don't participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I'll be there."

12seconds for Peace - Siddhārtha Gautama (The Buddha)

12seconds for Peace is very happy to present another in our series 'Leaders & Teachers for Peace' with this very special video-vignette based around the profound wisdom of Prince Siddhārtha Gautama. Siddhārtha Gautama went on to become more widely known as The Buddha (The Awakened or Enlightened One) and is the central figure around which the philosophical belief system of Buddhism grew. The Buddha is also considered a prophet within other philosophical and religious systems of thought, thus his words have a deep resonance for many.

12seconds for Peace - Donata Kalinauskaite - 3

Our final video in the trilogy from Donata Kalinauskaite is based around a quote from Dwight D. Eisenhower and once more, with the help of the music of Paul Collier has managed to imbue her work with so much passion and love.

As Donata so rightly points out in this video, true freedom is the ultimate reward in the search for peace. We all desire freedom just as much as we desire peace and the two are intrinsically interlinked; indeed they have a symbiotic relationship. Without peace - whether this is internal or external, we can never truly know freedom, and without freedom, we can never truly know peace.

12seconds for Peace - Anirya

Today's lovely video from Anirya is all about the profound influence that a person at peace - a heart at peace -  has on the world around it.

Time and time again, as we explore the notion of peace through the medium of the 12seconds for Peace videos, we are finding that no matter what the externally-focused demands for peace are, or where we wish it to manifest, their is a growing and urgent message that the truth of peace can only be found internally. Peace will come when we begin to embody peace in our daily lives, individually and collectively. Its energy can then impact and transform the outer world. So let us begin...

Many thanks Anirya for your lovely video.

12seconds for Peace - Hussam Salti

A fantastic and very pertinent video for 12seconds for Peace this time from Saudi Arabia made by Hussam Salti!

Hussam's video goes to the core of what it takes to make the world a better place: first of all before we do anything, we need to envision peace. We need to bring it into our hearts and minds as something that we truly aspire too. The law of attraction in action! Once we have peace in our hearts then we can feel motivated to make it happen in the external world!
